The Cameron Park Fire Department’s Santa Parade has a photo stop on its schedule at Castana Drive and Covello Circle, right inside Bar J Ranch. Expect a good share of your neighbors on that corner. It’s a good night to have the house lit. We’re based here in Cameron Park, which makes Bar J Ranch Christmas light installation about as close to a home game as we get.

Who sets the rules in Bar J Ranch

Not an HOA. We found no homeowners association and no management company for Bar J Ranch. What the tract has is recorded CC&Rs, unit by unit (the map shows Units 1 through 9), and those are administered by the Cameron Park CSD’s CC&R Compliance office with an Architectural Review Committee. The CSD is a public agency. Its CC&R handbook, its architectural handbook and its FAQ say nothing about holiday decorations and give no dates for putting them up or pulling them down. The committee’s attention is on permanent changes to a property.

One gap: each unit’s recorded CC&Rs are posted on the district’s website as scans, and we haven’t read them. Your unit’s copy is there if you want certainty.

What that adds up to for most owners is freedom. Nobody is issuing you a window. We schedule around you, not around a board. Call (530) 457-4771 with the week you want.

The houses: late-eighties and nineties builds on foothill lots

Most Bar J Ranch homes went up between 1988 and 2001, three to five bedrooms, on streets like Castana Drive, Covello Circle and Bocana Road. Send a photo of the roof edge so we know what we’re clipping to. Tile gets a tile clip slipped onto the edge. Gutters get a gutter clip. Shingles get a clip that slides under the tab. We never reach for a staple gun.

Lot size swings widely. Plenty are ordinary subdivision lots where the roofline is the whole show. Others run past an acre, with the house set back up a drive. On those bigger parcels, a lit roofline alone can look small from the road, and that’s when the yard has to help.

Have a long drive? Read the stake lighting page. We do the same kind of work in Airpark Estates and out at Cameron Estates, and the Cameron Park home page covers the rest of town.

Roofline and yard holiday lighting, Bar J Ranch Christmas light installation

Bar J Ranch Christmas light installation on subdivision lots and acre parcels

    • Roofline lights on the street-facing eaves and gables first. On a sloped lot we favor whichever edges show from the low side of the street.
    • Tree wraps on front-yard trunks. One wrapped tree near the road pulls the eye toward a house that sits back.
    • Pillar wraps on porch posts and any columns at the entry.
    • Stake lighting down the driveway edge on the larger parcels, or along the front walk on a standard lot, with stakes set between the sprinkler heads.
    • Lit wreaths on the garage gable or the wall by the door.
    • Lit garland draped on the porch railing or run up and over the door trim.

We show up with the lights, the cords and a timer. The timer brings everything on at dusk and off late in the evening.

    After the holidays

Having no deadline doesn’t mean lights should ride on the roof until spring. We come back in January and remove every strand and clip. Foothill wind and winter rain are hard on anything left up, and a clean January takedown means next year starts fresh. If something stops working before then, call (530) 457-4771.

    Quotes for neighbors

Shoot the front from the curb and text or email the pictures, attach them on the contact page, or just describe the place to us on a call to (530) 457-4771, and you’ll have a number without anyone standing in your yard.

While you’re planning a drive to look at lights, Holly Hills Lane is the Cameron Park street local realtors point people to, and the parade stops there too. For 2026 the Bar J Ranch stop at Castana Drive and Covello Circle is listed for Friday, December 11, around 6:30 in the evening, weather permitting.

    Bar J Ranch: common questions

Who handles the CC&Rs in Bar J Ranch, and do they cover Christmas lights?

We found no HOA. The tract’s recorded CC&Rs are administered by the Cameron Park CSD, and the district’s handbooks and FAQ don’t mention holiday decorations or set any dates.

How early can I have lights put up in Bar J Ranch?

As early as you want. With no association window to work around, the limit is our calendar, and early dates are easier to get.

We’re on one of the acre-plus parcels, well off the street. Will roofline lights even show?

From the road, sometimes barely. On deep lots we usually add a wrapped tree near the street or stakes up the driveway so the display reads from a distance.

Is the Santa Parade stop really in Bar J Ranch?

The 2026 schedule lists a photo stop at Castana Drive and Covello Circle on the Friday night of the parade, weather permitting. Check the Cameron Park CSD’s parade page for any changes.
